KEEPING IT VINTAGE// WEEZI

March 7th, 2012 § Leave a Comment

Last night  I found a cool shop.  While a colleague and I were on a search for a location to shoot our show pilot, we  ended up in a women’s shop. This shop is focused on vintage and original pieces, so if you want to look unique definitely a visit to Weezi is a must.

Hopefully in the near future we can interview one of our guests in this spot.

Keep it VINTAGE!

AN OBSESSION WITH SPIDERMAN//

January 17th, 2012 § Leave a Comment

The best obsessions are the ones with had as kids.  This is the illustrations of a 5 year old who is obsessed with spider-man that is currently on my wall.  It is really a reminder what we are here for.  We are here to do what we love to do.  I myself used to be obsessed with wolverine of the x-men and lego.  What is your obsession?

STREET ART// BENNYTA BANANA

The talented Gabriela Racines aka Bennyta Banana sent me these photos of here recent work that she did on the wall around Quito, Ecuador.  These two photos are from her Bennyta Girls series that she is currently working on.   One of the reasons I collaborate with her is because she still has the passion for her work and is always striving to get better at her craft.

If you have any thoughts please leave a comment.

OCCUPY EDMONTON // CHANGE THE WORLD

October 17th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

As you probably heard the Occupy protests that started in New York, has spread to Canada.  As I get ready to leave Edmonton, AB. to go back to Toronto, ON. I decided to attend the protest.  I thought I would just be there for an hour but I ended spending about 6 hours just talking to the people and getting more informed about different issues that affect us.  I know there is a long road ahead but something has to be done in order for things to change.

We will see what comes out of this movement and hope that things do change for the better.

Keep on fighting the good fight!

Johnny.

Bi coastal buzz word: Creative Collective.

Two heads are better than one, two creative heads are revolutionary.

My name is Sonia Lowe and I’m chiming in on this blog—much like I have been on this RP venture with JV, who’ve you’ve already become acquainted with, it seems. Johnny approached me a couple of months back and it didn’t take much to twisting. He was speaking my language : creative collaboration.

I’m not much of a talker these days, because I’m busy hauling ass, instead. I’ve ventured out to L.A to “prove myself”  freelancing as a writer/producer/creative director with a hope that everything thing I sacrificed for my career—including my sanity—will be salvaged in the end.

And salvation, to artists, is gained through recognition of our merit-rich creative expression.

Peddling creative vision as a full fledged career, is a dream I eventually insisted would become my reality after I refused to settle for anything less than work that utilizes my full potential. Containing artists to a single medium, is nothing short of … tragic.

Don’t be afraid to be multidimensional, not-to-be-mistook with mastery-of-none.

I recently learned to shift my consciousness from: “I’d do this work for free” which, is true … but only when I changed the atmosphere to : “being an artist is the ONLY way I’ll earn a living” it sealed my fate as a creative professional.

Until next time.

Your avant-garde obsessed inspiration junkie,

Sonia Lowe//@solowe

MIXING FOOD & DESIGN // Dessert

August 29th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

I had the pleasure to go to Calgary AB. Canada this weekend for some food adventures.  I started the day going to visit one of my friends that is currently residing in the very clean city that is Calgary.  As I arrived there, I had accumulated a very large appetite and I was eager to start the day off by eating some delicious food.  As we discussed where we should go, my friend talked highly about this pizza place called Una in 17th ave. so since she is a foodie (food person) I decided to go along.  We arrived there and we actually got good sitting. We started by ordering the Swiss chard pizza, since I love bacon.  The pizza was nothing short of perfect.  We topped it off with Crabbies Ginger Beer which was perfect for a hot sunny day.   During lunch we could not help but talk about design.  The process we take to come up with the final product and the fear we have to show people the incomplete project.  This used to be a big fear of mine when I first graduated, don’t get me wrong I still have that fear but it is a more controlled fear.  I think it has to do a little bit with finding yourself and your style.  You develop this while working with other artists (better artist than yourself) and acquiring life experience.  I don’t think I would have come out of my shell if I would have not traveled and met people that are better than I was and have a whole different outlook on life.

After having some good food, beer and conversation, she decided to show me her art, so she took  me to her place of work where she creates.  I forgot what the name of the dessert, but it was delicious with a great presentation to it. (picture above)

I guess until my next design adventure.  Keep on creating.
